HVAC maintenance checklist left on residential air conditioner.

6 Items to Include on Your HVAC Maintenance Checklist This Summer

As we head into the warmer months in Wisconsin, it’s important to make sure all of your home comfort systems are functioning as they should be. You don’t want to be stuck without cool air once the first heat wave strikes. This HVAC maintenance checklist ensures all your home comfort systems are working perfectly. If you have questions or experience any problems with your systems, call the Bryant® experts at ComfortAire Heating Cooling Fireplaces today.

Your HVAC Maintenance Checklist

1. Clean the Area Around Your A/C

Winter wind and snow cause leaves and sticks to get stuck in and around your air conditioner. Go outside and inspect the area surrounding your A/C to remove anything that could hinder system performance.

2. Test Your Air Conditioner

Turn on your air conditioner for a test run and make sure it’s blowing cold air like it should be. If you notice any loud sounds or smells coming from the unit, this could be a sign that something’s not right. Call ComfortAire to rule out a serious problem.

3. Replace Your HVAC Air Filter

If you haven’t done so recently, change out your HVAC air filter for a fresh, clean one. It’s recommended to do this about every one to three months. This timing depends on your system, whether you have pets, or if family members are sensitive to dust and dander.

4. Have Your Home Ducts Cleaned

Sometimes dust and dirt can build up in areas you can’t see. This is the case with your home’s ductwork.  Vents in the average home can collect up to 40 pounds of dust a year. Prevent recirculation of that buildup with duct cleaning from ComfortAire.

5. Check Your Home for Air Leaks

Just as we recommend in winter, it’s beneficial to check all your windows and doors for holes, cracks, or warping that could allow warmer air to seep in. This will prevent irregular temperatures throughout your home and keep your A/C from working harder than it needs to.

6. Install a Smart Thermostat

If you frequently run your A/C in summer, your energy bills can quickly grow sky-high. One way to fix this is by installing a smart thermostat in your home. This enables you to better control your home’s temperature from any location and automatically adjust your home temperature—saving you money and extra wear and tear on your system.
